Featured Replies

not for a skoda

just picked our lass up a honda civic 2005 that can have a double din sat nav as an option or as i have a single din cd player

looking at a cheap double din with dab and  Navigation would be a bonus but not essential

bluetooth phone would be a bonus but it has a parrot installed

i have seen a double din facsia but from what i have read these make the unit fit more flush and are not generally used

after reading a few posts on the honda forum unless you drive a type r they dont seem very helpful

looking for a few recommendations of cheap double dins please

They should fit the same slot but you'll probably need a trim piece for each individual car.

I have that at the minute I want to fit a double din unit

Now I been told they are all the same I am looking for a decent cheap recommended unit

Had a look on the bay and with all the Chinese units I don't know which are decent and which are naff

Some of those Chinese units are on sale through Amazon, so there is a chance the one you want has had a few good or bad reviews. As mentioned, all DIN/2DIN are the same size - DIN is an internationally agreed size similar to that for paper (A4, A5, B5 etc), but you may need a repacement dash piece or trim for it to fit properly/look good.

Thank you found the double din trim for £15 just need to find a suitable unit

Daft question though would you keep the parrot kit or use the head unit for the phone kit

Depends on the head unit; mine has a microphone input - I have the mic lodged in the door trim close to my head, and uses the speakers for any calls. I have hairy ears and cant get the BT ear pieces to stay in properly these days (oh the woes of growing old!!)

How cheap is your budget?

Budget is about £300

The parrot kit is the one with a little knob and a red and green button

Microphone is located at the top of the apillar

And the sound comes through vehicle speakers

Not took the dash apart yet but I am assuming it's all chopped into the ISO harness

Priority really is

Dab

SD card support

Nav

Seem a pumpkin unit that comes with a camera but when I select no camera option it loses dab for some reason

I can see why you are looking at the Chinese units, SD support has all but vanished from "Western" designs. Even USB inputs are WORSE now than they were 10 years ago, as you would have read in my scathing review of the Clarion head unit I bought last year.

(2 seconds per GB to scan the USB drive EVERY time it is selected - even when traffic news cuts in, and it wont play ANYTHING until the scan is completed; even the £30 Chinabox it replaced managed to start playing within 2 seconds, AND scan in the back ground)
