Fabia Greenline revving issue

Featured Replies

Since I've owned the car I've had a problem with the cars revs jumping up when pulling up. It usually jumps from just under 1000 to just over, and sometimes makes the car lurch forward. It's intermittent and not a problem all the time. Sometimes if I rev the engine the revs go back under 1000 and stay there whilst I'm idle. Then it will do it again after I've driven to the next stop.

Can anyone help? My car ran out of dealership warranty but as its only a year ago since I've bought it, would you be taking it back to ask them to fix it?

I had an Ibiza FR 1.6 TDI for a few weeks last year as a courtesy car.

I noticed that just idling the revs were normal (about 800 I think). Then as soon you started to use the clutch the revs would jump up to 1000rpm as like an anti-stall measure and to help setting off etc I suppose.

Could it be this? If you put it into neutral and release the clutch do the revs drop back down?

If not then it could be a faulty accelerator pedal.

Don't know if this will help, had similar problem on a Fabia Combi, spent ages looking at electronics on pedal and air box, finally sorted it out turned out to be the rubber insulation padding that's got a slot cut in it for the top of the acc pedal had distorted and was catching the pedal on odd occasions sometimes causing it to run at fast at tickover just after you brake and stop.

I just removed the under panel and gave it a generous cut either side of the pedal slot and haven't had the problem since it's worth a try

I've seen something similar a couple of times with mine, prob 3/4 times over 2 months and around 1500 miles.

I assumed this was when it was doing a DPF regen.

It could well be the engine is running a dpf regen. But if it's happening all the time then it's more likely the engine need the Throttle Position Sensor resetting. It can go out of syc if the battery is disconnected for over 30 mins or on some other occasions when work is being done on the car. Your dealer will know how to do this. It can also be the throttle pedal itself (which is fly by wire) needs replacing due to internal leccy problems. Costs about £45 irc plus labour if you don't do it yourself. There are some other things that can cause it but those are the most likely issues in my experience.

Hey today a friend who has been having same issue with his 1.6 TDI and guess what turns out to be the foam around the pedal issue cut it from around top of pedal hey presto no more fast tick over

One point you can try if and when it happens again stick your foot under pedal and gently pull back/lift up towards you or flick it a few times if revs die down go for the foam cut before shelling out reams of money

Sorry forgot to reply to this thread. Something else has happened which might explain the fault, my cruise control has stopped working. I've read that can be down to the clutch switch and would also explain the revving.

Worth a shot.

If the throttle position sensor(s) is/are faulty the system will deactivate the cruise control.
