What lubricant for a sticky brake piston.

Think my sticky piston has returned so I'm going to have a look, what's the best type of lubricant for them. I've heard dry ptfe is good but also Moly dry-film lubricant.

Can anyone confirm or have a better type. Cheers.

Caliper piston, like inside?

It's constantly coverd in brake fluid anyway I'm sure (as in the internals) so can't think of anything you can add.

When it stuck before I used a small amount of copper slip which helped a bit. Unit 18 did some work on the bakes and said they also put some lube (unsure what though) and has worked for a few month.

I think I'll rebuild them soon but what it freed until I an do so.

Red brake grease?

Sticky piston in the calliper is more down to having grime etc in it? Strip it down, clean it up and renew the seals or just buy a new calliper.

Red grease is for the sliders etc really.

The main piston seal and another one that goes inside the caliper that keeps the brake fluid inside should both be left alone basically.

Cheers guys. I've looked into it a bit more into it and most recommend a small amount brake fluid around the piston. If that doesn't help then it will be a rebuild.

Priced the parts up, new pistons with seals, bleed nipples, and some other which come to £230, which wasn't as bad as I thought.

Can't you buy new calipers for about £60 each?

Your going to paint them anyway so might be worth doing that.

This is for the tarox lol. However those new rear brakes look tempting

Ah sorry mate, I just assumed it was rear brakes sticking since it's the common one. Never used tarox so can't help, but good luck!

I wouldn't buy all that before removing the one sticky piston and try cleaning it up tbh.

It will most probably have some of that stupid white dusty corrosion on it from the steel and alloy reacting ;)

Pain with these Tarox having no weather seals :(

Your probably right. Seems a bit of a design flaw, its it the same with the likes of brembo, wilwood etc.

OEM Brembos are weather sealed,not sure on after market. 

 

But majority of AP'S/after market calipers are not running weather seals.
