Speeding

Featured Replies

Got phone call from friend yesterday thinking they got caught speeding.

Was targeted by a dis-mounted motorcycle cop with hand-held thingy (not on tripod).

Anyone know what devices are used by the police that are this portable?? and do they take photos. I was only aware of laser / radar guns like this which means that the officer normally jumps out in front of you or you get stopped further down the road..

'Friend' wasn't flagged down however so worrying now!!

Anyone on here any experience of this?

I got zapped recently by a hand held and was pulled on the spot.

Normally the police give you 10% + 2mph at least so he might have been OK.

Photo kit normally needs at least a van due to physical dimensions of the equipment.

Don't worry about it.

Some of them can take photos. Plenty of the camera vans are just a man inside with one of the hand held lasers (on a tripod though)

Yep, Thames Valley trialed a device that mounted on the bike. At the time thay said it "allowed the device to be placed in small places like farm gateways etc." Dont think they ever took on any after the trial though.

Lots of info here :D

I have not so fond memories of Thames Valley police. Got done for 102 during the blanket 50 mph limit back in the seventies. Overtook an umarked MGBV8GT on my R90/6 BMW bike. Then did a wheelie as he started to pass me after we turned off the main road. :o
