mk 3 scout towbar

Featured Replies

My dad took delivery of a new scout last week and is contemplating a towbar.  Anyone had one fitted or recommend any?  Would only be for very occasional towing and no great weights involved.

(apologies if similar is posted elsewhere)

I've had a Westfalia detachable fitted. Good quality and reversing sensors are unaffected by it. If you have the normal bracket fitted the sensors will pick it up when the car is reversed unless you switch them off of course!

Go to Westfalia site and you should find a fitter near you. Not the cheapest but one of the best in my opinion

I fitted mine myself and coded trailer electrics with VCDS. Dead easy to fit. Less than 3 hours taking extreme care. The electrics ECU you can buy from Westfalia as it is the genuine VW Group item.

thanks for the info. will have a look and see.

Any chance you could take a few pictures?

I'll be getting a towbar fitted in the next few weeks, don't really need a detachable but would prefer a swan neck for aesthetics.

Funnily enough, coded a Westfalia on a Scout today :)

Any pictures?  :D

This is the detachable...

Wondering what the fixed might look like...

Are they useful?

Pretty straightforward fit in all honesty

Brilliant, thanks paddy wagon!

I see yours is the fixed one too, that is my mind made up, I'm going to go for the same.

I see you had to cut the bumper, not sure what the lease company will say about that on mine, hopefully it'll be out of view come collection time!

I'm assuming you fitted it yourself? Did you go for the proper integrated electrics (CANBUS)? Looking on PF Jones website these bump up the price...

Westfalia Swan Neck - £94.25

7 pin electrics (June 2014>) without T/P - £105

Total £199.25 inc. VAT and delivery.

Fitting extra.

What is T/P by the way? Selecting 'with T/P' drops the price by about £10.

T/P - Towbar Prep

Ah, that makes sense, so those who have had the towbar prep fitted when the car was built.

Mines a lease too. The cut is very out of sight when you look at the car. Had to properly angle the phone to to take the photo. If it's an issue, it's an issue.

The bar was from PH Jones with the Westfalia electrics.

Installed myself. Just got to get the wiring in behind the glove box. That's this week's job.

Coded by andyvee who was superb.

Meaning if it's an issue to the lease company.

I was wondering if at the point of fitting you could keep the cut-out, and then glue it back at the end of the lease.

I'm sure it could be cut in a certain way to make it easier and cleaner to re-fit...

It probably could but the dimensions they give are made up I'm sure so it ends up trial and error.

I have the pieces still!
