Mirror view in rain. Is this normal?

Featured Replies

I've got a courtesy car.

A 15 reg 7000miler  1.6 diesel Fab2.

Never been in one before.

Anyway, whilst on the motorway, it started raining. Not particularly heavy, but steady.

To my dismay at 60 mph, I found I could barely see anything through the o/s door mirror, due to a heavy and constant wide stream of water coming from the mirror backing plate and then across the door glass.

Is this normal I wondered?

Inherently dangerous if so imo.

Very normal and has been since the model was launched, but now it is discontinued. Use Rain X or similar on the glass can help, and wind deflectors do a bit as well.

Only got it for a couple of days, but wow, it shocked me as to just how bad this was.

I'm quite amazed things like this aren't picked up during development of a model.

Funnily, I have not found it to be too bad... No more so then many other vehicles as rain usually blasts off at enough speed anyway. There will be a speed where it is at its most conspicuous though, where the aerodynamics shoot it across the window and in to your vision. Reach higher speeds, it'll clear and lower speeds won't cause it to happen enough. I guess though, the critical speed may be the one you drive at most often. I too, use wind deflectors but keeping your glass squeaky clean will help as will the afore mentioned rain-ex.  You will probably notice a similar thing happen to your windscreen... drive at around 50-60 mph and switch off the wipers... Effin -ell! can't see a thing...  Now try it at 80 or above and its a different fish in a different kettle!  Unfortunately you are now hitting illegal (U.K.) Speeds though. :peek:
