TCS light still on

Featured Replies

Just had a new alternator fitted. After years of having the TCS light on I thought I'd finally get the problem sorted. Left it with my mechanic asked him to check the wire first to see if it had broken. Got a phone call to say the car required a new alternator as it was only showing 12v as opposed to 14v so wasn't charging the battery.

I was like ok that's fine if it needs it then change it. So fetched the car drove back to work and after 10 mins the tcs light has come back on. So basically I'm £200 lighter and still have the tcs light on. I've turnt the key so all the lights illuminate on the dash and I am getting the red battery light come up on the dash so i am assuming the load signal wire is fine?.. or is there another underlying problem?

I'm kind of feeling ripped off as I feel he's just bunged on a new alternator instead of actually investigating what I initially said to look at.

Unless he lied, which I doubt, then you did need a new alternator so you weren't ripped off. Logic is not difficult.

Traction Control System? AKA ASR?

If so, then what the kitten made you think it was something to do with the charge circuit? Since the ABS clearly still works, the most likely issue is a mis-set air gap on the front rotor rings.
