Hi a need to do a compression test before a start what should a disconnect first (I.e)

Fuel pump relay or something else before a pull glow plugs and crank engine over thanks

Disconnect the Injector loom? The big round plug next to the tandem pump.

Cheers just the loom plug.

Thoroughly warm engine before trying to remove the glow plugs as they can be seized.

Can a just say thanks to the replys ave done the test and from what the gage said 30/30/28/26 bar between the pots.

But am no top mechanic so am not sure what that reflects on is it the valves guides and seals or is it the piston rings that's causing the oil to burn off thanks.

Guys, I've been quoted £48 for a compression test. Would I be better just getting the tool and doing it myself?

 

My car's drinking a lot of oil, but I need to see what happens over the coming weeks to see exactly how much I'm going through in 600 miles.

Is yours petrol or diesel

Mine's petrol.

Not to sure you'll need to no what size spark plugs to find the right thread size for the compression tester as they have different fitting sizes.

OK, borrowed a tester from the garage at work. It has adapters for all plug sizes.
 
Am I right in saying that for a 2TSI Petrol, it's this procedure:

  • Warm engine
  • Disconnect coil packs
  • Pull plug from cylinder 1 and connect tester
  • Accelerator down and crank engine for ~5s
  • Write down dry pressure
  • squirt a little oil into cylinder
  • do wet test as above
  • repeat for other cylinders, replacing spark plugs into previoously tested cylinders as I go
  • Refit everything
  • Cry when I see low compression results :'(

Anything else I need?

As for compression readings a would GOOGLE it or ask on BRISKODA someone who's more clued up than me will help.

Sorry for not being much help a can't see it being that hard to do.

Cheers Graeme. Yeah I don't forsee it to be difficult at all, I just get nervous doing something the first time, and like to make sure I do it right.  A lot of people are talking about removing the injector relay/fuse, and also a PCV valve/connector to simulate WOT. I'm not sure why though as surely that's one of the reasons of holding the accelerator down (as well as telling the ECM not to give fuel).

 

No visible oil drips or plumes, but I do seem to be loosing a lot of oil somewhere and I'm aware the pistons/piston rings aren't the best in the earliest iteration of the TSI.

A suppose it wouldn't hurt to take the fuse out and disconnect the PCV u never no

Bump.  Hoping to do this tomorrow morning.  Can anyone tell me if I need to do anything other than list above? I've pulled the dash trim off so I can see the internal fuse box but can't see anything relating to ignition or fuel, so I'm assuming any fuse I need to remove is in the engine bay fuse box.

 

Can anyone please confirm? I know a compression test should be dead simple, just don't want to do it wrong and electrocute myself or flood the engine ha.

A would have thought so for the fuse in the engine bay but not to sure on the order of doing the job

Hi guys,

About to do the test but still unsure of which relay to pull. The skoda workshop manual says to remove motronic current supply relay j271 from the e-box in the engine. I can't see anything with that label though?
