The speedo and tacho clocks on my Mk1 Octavia have started to stop working at random time and then work again. The needles usually register a value on start up, then will both drop to zero for a minute or so until they register again. Is there a connector likely to be loose somewhere?

 

Could be the onset of regulator failure on the instrument cluster. IIRC the work around is to remove fuse 15 (trip will zero each time you cycle the ignition), &  if the speedo & tacho then work normally you have most likely got dry joints on the cluster regulators, which is a common problem on mk1 Octy's.

 

N.B. Pretty sure it's fuse 15, but could be fuse 5, hopefully another member will confirm soon.
