Re-setting the timing PD130?! *HELP PLEASE*

Featured Replies

Looking at buying an Ibiza pd130, just had head gasket etc, but needs re-timing now with a new cam belt, I tried searching on Google but all I find is 'how to replace timing belt' which is good, but let's say the timing is all over the place, how do I set it all to the correct timing before fitting a new timing belt/tensioners etc, if you know what I mean.. I need to know from the cams onward, as the cams aren't even in yet. Any help appreciated thank you! Never worked like this on a diesel before, only starlet 1.3 turbo's!

You use locking tools to set the timing up im afraid.

Easy to get hold of and fairly cheap as well :)

set the 3 bolts on the camshaft adjustment to the center position and you can match up the parts (legs?) that stuck out the pully with a mark on the crank case similar (looks like <--)

You MIGHT be able to set up the crankshaft via a mark on the flywheel but enver see that suggested on here so might not be possibly.

Basically, tools for around £10 will make sure everythings 100% and work first time, guessing timing is never worth doing from the damage it can cause.

ALSO. Make sure you have the timing ROUGHLY in place when you fit the cams, if your fitting it for example... "cylinder one piston in TDC and when you fit the camshaft it thinks cylinder one piston is at the lower stroke and the valves are open, all you will do is force the valve down onto the piston and break things.

Also there is a hole in the top of the bellhousing, there is a mark on the flywheel which shows TDC.
