Front wheel bearing replacement

Featured Replies

Hi,

Got a noisy FWB on the Mrs's Fabia. I've found this thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/148753-fabia-front-wheel-bearing/, but I'm wondering if I buy a bearing kit that includes the hub, like EuroCarParts p/n 629441121, will I need a press to fit it, or will it be a slip-off-slip-on job?

(Like any job ends up being that simple...)

Cheers,

Iain

It is only possible to buy the bearing and the flange together. In order to successfully install then you need the specific GEN2 wheel bearing tool set.

See the end of this thread :-

If you post your location someone with the tool may offer to help.

Cool, thanks for that. I'm in Dumbarton, but if I can't borrow/hire one I'll probably get my local place to do it.

Cheers,

Iain

Make sure they do use the right kit then, or you will be back in for another shortly.

Yeah, I was thinking that. I've only used them for a spring, which they seem to have done ok. Nothing like doing it yourself, so you know what you've bodged you've done it properly.

Puller/fitting kits on ebay for the price of an hour's labour, so swinging back towards doing it myself. :)

Got this done today. Not too bad a job, really, once all the right tools had arrived.

I know bearings are prone to going, but I'm a bit suspicious that this one went so soon after having the spring on the same corner replaced. Could anything the garage did have affected it?

The car's done nearly 100,000 miles, and it was the old-type nut that was on it (not replaced during said spring change, tut tut), so if it's the original one it's done pretty well!

Wouldn't need to take the driveshaft nut off to change a spring.

Fair enough :)
