wheel bearing

Featured Replies

Seems to be blank?

Bacially i went throw a bad pot hole . It bent my hob. So i changed the hob drive shaft (cuz the sensor wasnt reading it) and placed a brand new wheel bearing from dealers. Put in new disk and pads. The problem now is the brake cailper was torching the disk its made a mark on the new disk all around . When i took the wheel off, i just moved the disk but it has a play in it which i know it shouldnt have. Other side is perfect but this side moves abit which is bad i know. Any 1 know what the problem iss. Plzzz help

If the disc is touching the bearing has not been pulled into the hub all the way.

Tryed pushing as far in as where can but wasnt going anymore. Could it be that my shock is bent ??

A bent shock won't cause caliper misalignment.

The bearing should be flush into the housing when viewed from the rear. Also the retaining ring should be clipped in correctly behind the hub face. Normally they don't sit in correctly when installed using a press rather than the correct puller tool.

I did press the bearing in tbh. But i tho that wudnt make a difff

If you have pressed the bearing in did you press the hub carrier onto the bearing?

I pressed the bearing into the hub thats all. It all fitted perfect on the car. Drove it around and felt and heard something touching. Looked at it and it was the cailper tourching it. Removed the wheel and its got a play in it

If you pressed the bearing into the hub then you have knackered the bearing. Due to the hub design you can't normally press on the outer race. If you press through the bearing it will fail, they are not designed to be loaded that way. It's why there is correct tooling to do it. post-4839-0-78166500-1451938423_thumb.jpegpost-4839-0-84816000-1451938433_thumb.jpeg

Yes, bearing is now scrap.

This is an interesting read .. When I changed my passenger side drive shaft , I had a look at the hub and bearing .. And it seems I got a gap between race and hub , also the air gap on the abs sensor seems large , maybe the bearing isn't in right , the thing that made me check it , was that it's a pain to get passenger wheel off , the spigot on the bearing is miss shaped . Wonder if this from pressing on it ?? Also the abs likes to kick in now and again under light braking .. Could this all be related ?? Sorry to hijack thread !!

I would put money on it. Seen it loads at the dealer.

Best I order a tool and a bearing then . There doesn't seem to have any play in bearing .. I've had 4 different garages look at it and all say bearings fine , hmmmm , Could the bearing potentially move in the hub If it ain't seated right ??

It's pretty tight in there so in practice I doubt it.

Ah ok mate thank you .. Have you used the proper tool before ?? If so can you leave the hub carrier on the car . So just take off ball joint and drive shaft , and abs sensor .then draw the bearing out ?

  • Author

Yes that's the idea. The hub carrier stays on car.

Tech1e thank you so much for your info .and are all the wheel bearings the same across the Fabia mk1 range ??

  • Author

I think the only one that is a different size is the 1.0 MPi and good luck finding one of them.

Cool mate . Do they do a non abs bearing ??
