Major Service Costs

Featured Replies

Been offered a 'deal' by someone I know.

To do a service which includes

- Pollen Filter Change;

- Air Filter Change;

- Oil and Filter Change;

- Spark Plug Change;

- DV Valve fit (part already supplied).

Is this the same as a dealer service apart from the DV change.

If so, he is charging me too much!

You may want to include the price!

He's charging me £270 for the whole lot. Parts incl.

Dealer price is £259.

I knew that, so what he's doing what a skoda dealer would do? No extra.

The dealer would only change those parts *if required.

However, if they are required than yes, you can see from the link above that all the items you list are included for the £259.

Plus a diagnostic check, plus software updates, plus a wash and vac, plus a stamp in the book, plus a free courtesy car etc.

You friend appears to be having a bit of a laugh, or is looking for ways to fund his summer holiday.

He's replacing the fuel filter as well. He is a skoda engineer.

The parts can all be had for less than £100, even less if you are in the trade.

As long as you are happy paying £170 labour then all is good.

I've no doubt adding the fuel filter on to the £259 from a main dealer would push the bill over £300.

He uses OEM parts. And is probably making a good £100 out of me, but if it's cheaper than a skoda dealer then happy with that.

I used to be fussed about a 'stamp' but on a 10 year old car, is it really worth it?

Just get him to sign off the book.  I used to sign off all my home jobs for my private customers.

Re: the price:  I used to charge almost the same price for a cash job at home  as the workshop service was.  My "selected" private customers (I only worked on cars that had caring owners) were happy to pay it as they new I would treat their car like my own.  I also did a lot of extras that weren't done at the dealership.  They got a much better job in the end for the same money.
