Terraclean

Featured Replies

Hi people.

Just a quick post.

I opted to get my car a terraclean service this morning.

Initial thoughts it's made a vast improvement to car's throttle response in any gear and the engine is a quieter.

Time will tell in regards to increased mpg.

For only £108 I think it was well worth it, as it's meant to prolong the life of other engine components such as egr valves and the fuel injectors themselves.

Petrol or diesel?

Paul007 + 1 for observation.

Yes but the cleaning product doesn't have the same lubricating properties as diesel I believe and there is a very big risk it will knacker your high pressure fuel pump when it's ran through the engine (as experienced by another member on here with a fabia 2).

Edd China never tells us that on the advert though does he!

Well not categorical, but makes interesting reading...

Hadn't read it, but doesn't mean he still has it, plus also doesn't show up on mobile site

I had it done on a vectra c sri few year ago.

It felt great at first.

But then any car would be after being stood still for 30 mins with a fuel additive added.

I use redex in both cars, with out any problems.

And me every 2-3 tanks i put a whole one in.

That's what I do. I chuck in a full big bottle of the stuff.

So is terraclean a good idea or not in the long run?

From personal experience i feel ripped off.

I know it doesn't count for much but Car Mechanics Magazine had an article on flushing or cleaning out your engine with a choice of 3 options one was using Terraclean another was the one where the run a flushing fluid through the engine with the third being a clean up using ground up walnuts ......

Isn't the main point that you need to clean the air intake side, because with a DI engine, the fuel doesn't run over the intakes and valve backs?

I do still have the car. It is a Vrs TDI.

Yes but the cleaning product doesn't have the same lubricating properties as diesel

The product used is highly refined fuel for the car being cleaned.

So highly refined diesel in my case therefore it will have the same lubricating properties.

The product is injected straight into the fuel injection system so if it was anything other than diesel the engine would not run at all. No diesel was taken from my fuel tank during the process as the fuel pump was disconnected.

I'll stick to Millers eco max, The MOT emission test print outs prove it must be doing something good ..

Exactly!

Isn't the main point that you need to clean the air intake side, because with a DI engine, the fuel doesn't run over the intakes and valve backs?

On DI engines, a separate probe is pushed past the MAF sensor and the cleaner is sprayed onto the back of the valves.
