Which rear brakes?

Featured Replies

I have got a 2010 Octavia II combi and the rear brake discs and pads need changing. When I look on Euro car parts, it says that there is more than one choice, but no information as to how to tell which ones to select.

Can anyone help please?

Phone your local ECP shop, they should be able to tell from the registration number.

I rang EBC, they said that the reg number gave them three choices, I have to measure the diameter of the disc to find out which are fitted. A job for the weekend then.

My information shows the CDAB Engined cars can have 3 different types:

* Up to Construction week 44 in 2009

Brake disc 260mm - CII 41 calipers (before and including March 2009)

(The 41 indicates the piston diameter in mm)

or

Brake disk 256mm - CII 41 calipers (from April 2009)

(The 41 indicates the piston diameter in mm)

* From Construction week 45 in 2009

Brake disc 272mm - Bosch BIRIII calipers

  (38mm piston diameter)

If your car was built in 2010 then it is likely to be Bosch.  If your car is a 2010 model built in 2009, then the second of the two CII types is a possibility.

Have a look at the data codes on the sticker in the front of your service book.

It should have the code for your rear brakes. You should see the brake code on the Ecp listing against each brake option.

Great!

Thanks for that, I can see that the brake pads have VAG Bosch on them, and it was definitely built in 2010, I ordered it in April and it was delivered  in June, so Bosch it is.

...and the sticker has 1KS on it which ties in as well. Thanks, I'm sorted now.
