Battery problem Fabia Monte Carlo 2012

Featured Replies

I got my second Skoda Fabio new in 2012.

I've never had any problems until today when driving 4 miles stop the car and turned the engine off it wouldn't start again there were no warning lights and no indication previously that there was a problem. Green flag give me a jumpstart and told me it was a flat battery I'm hoping that this is a one off but as I said there is no indication to a problem apart from a really weird thing recently happened that when I start the car the rear wiper wipes once even though it's not activated on the stem

Whilst driving back in order to charge the battery in the hope that it will start when I go to work tomorrow I noted that the indicator lights did not stay on when briefly activated

Has anyone got any ideas what could be wrong it seems to me that there maybe something draining the battery but I am not able to see look forward to your thoughts many thanks Jill

It could just be that the battery is faulty and requires a new one. Strange things can happen when the battery is on its way out. Of course it could be many other things causing the issues but unless you are competent at fault finding your better off taking it to a garage to have a look at

A 2012 model could quite easily need a replacement battery by now, especially if its had a low amount of miles, lots of stops and starts and left for ages between drives. Sometimes they seem fine then, particularly if its been cold, they just give up the ghost. They get weak with time and although they may seem charged, the charging capacity drops dramatically, making it seem as if you have a tiny little battery that would fit a moped! Not sure of your model but mine is a 3 cylinder diesel and needs quite a bit of power to spin those three large(ish) pistons and a weak battery will fail without much warning.

The rear wiper will do what you described you have the front wipers on and you slip the car into reverse. Perhaps you did this or perhaps its just a glitch as sometimes things like that just seem to happen. Not sure if its due to canbus wiring or something.

Hi many thanks for the replies , the rear wiper issue isn't related to tags normal functions. IE it swipes once when the key is turned and the stem controls are in the off and the car is in neutral

A new battery was tried , 1st battery from garage was too small do the correct size was fitted , but the test results show it's not takibg a charge , so now in the garage having alternator checked , bet mines on the top range price But the car us only 4 years old , and I do at least 5 journies a week of 15 miles each way and at least once a knob of over 70 miles each way , so problem nit really related to shirt journeys , although I do some shorter ones approx 4-7 mikes

It's typical it's not quite a year out of warranty and I thought they were the best reliable cars going

Anyone got any other ideas ?
