Fault codes, engine and electrics

Featured Replies

Picked up the new 2006 TFSi vRS on Friday, hooked it up to the PC and scanned codes over the weekend and found a few issues in the baseline scan...

I think the oil sensor issue is a one off, only occured once and has now gone 3000km without appearing again

More serious is the BPCV - from what I can tell it's likely to be the rubber diaphram failing in the part number 06H 145 710, chances are it's fitted with revision A, B, or C and that revision D (or G?) is a good replacement?

My local spanner man is going to have the car up on the lift tomorrow and I can get the part off and have a look so more info will be incoming

Now, I'm trying to get to the bottom of this one.

The alarm system on the car appears to function correctly as far as the indicator light in the door trim flashes correctly, if I lock the car with a single button push arming the alarm, then open the door with the key blade only, after 15 seconds the alarm system activates, the hazards flash but there's no audible alarm.

In addition to this the ATA confirm chirps don't sound when locking or unlocking, VCDS and MFD both confirm that the setting is activated in the coding

Now, it gets a little odd - the electrical system is recording a fault with the trunk lock, which I've read is a common cause of alarm shenanigans - and upon checking the fuse box in the car, fuse 35 "Anti-theft Alarm System" is missing.  Installing a 5A fuse in this slot does not alter any part of the behaviour of the alarm system.

I'm pretty sure the alarm siren is toast, but is there a way that the previous owner might have started having alarm issues, caused by the trunk lock, and may have removed a fuse to mask the issue before trading it in to the dealer I bought it from?

OK, had the car up on lift today and it just gets stranger...

The membrane in the Diverter Valve is intact, mechanic can't see any visual problems but it cant be tested so we've just ordered a new one and I'll see if that stops the fault occurring...

The alarm issue is very strange, the mechanic found that:

1. There was no alarm siren fitted, behind the RHS front wheel or anywhere else for that matter, nor any cable connector

2. The alarm system was deactivated in CANBUS

3. There's no button on the B-pillar to deactivate the interior sensors

It would seem that there is no alarm system fitted, but I thought that it was standard on vRS models?  (Bear in mind that mine isn't UK spec, so could presumably be meaningless)

It also seems odd that the alarm is "triggered" by opening the car with the key without hitting the unlock button first

The indicator light in the driver's door behaved as follows when locked with the remote:

Alarm deactivated in coding: Flashes fast for 2 seconds, then slowly - according to the manual this means that the doors are locked and the alarm system is activated

Alarm activated in coding: Flashes fast for 2 seconds, then on constantly, ie: there's a problem with the alarm system (obvious, given there's no siren!!)

Still no closer to figuring out the alarm issue really...

Should also add that there's an option on the MFD to have the "ATA Confirm" on or off

I take it that ATA likely stands for "Anti-Theft Alarm"

I'll be passing a big Skoda dealer this weekend and might have time to drop by and see if they can tell me exactly what my car left the factory with!!

You can get a full list of PR codes from https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/ very cheaply.

My car has: 7AH - Electronic vehicle immobilization device with alarm system, passenger compartment control and backup horn

It might be a different code on earlier cars :)

Thanks langers - your previous recommendations w.r.t. software also worked out just fine - thank you :)

My tech guy here says that the car should have an alarm fitted, standard as per UK spec

Have picked up the car, now much quieter, one of the rear bearings was completely shot and the other wasn't far behind - sorted out the tyre pressures as well, all up at around 3.0bar, but it's hot today and the car had been driven a bit so I've put them down to 2.5f/2.6r bar, much nicer ride...

Hooked the car up to VCDS and the BPCV error has not reappeared in the handful of driving cycles I've done - the rev.D part has been fitted, I very much doubt I'd be able to feel any difference in the turbo spooling up having only done 500km in the car but it certainly feels strong enough...

At this juncture I'm planning to ask the previous dealer about the alarm, tech recommended getting in touch with the dealer in Split, they should be able to give me the definitive answer on factory fitting

Happy with the turbo now, will monitor for future errors and see how it handles the inevitable remap...
