Felicia excess electic and blowing bulbs

Featured Replies

Hi i wonder i anyone knows the answer.

I have a 97 P reg felicia combi ( Estate) 13 LXI

The problem i have is a few weeks ago my airbag light comes on and stays on.

It did this about 4 years ago also and needed reseting.

So i was not to worried about it and didn't get round to getting it done.

Now all the electrics have gone up the shoot.

The fan keeps going really fast, The bulbs keep comming up really bright and then blow.

The skoda garage (was dealer but lost the franchise) are fully booked and can't get me in for 4 weeks.

Now i have been looking through the haynes manual and nothing.

A freind said it would be the ECU but i think thats unlikely as that manages the engine.

the battery was replaced a couple of months back so it can't be that.

Could the alternator do this.

I have heard they can overcharge and would this cause the bulbs to blow and fan come on fast.

And does anyone know how to check them with the skoda garage fully booked im right stuck

I would suspect the voltage regulator first then the alernator. But whichever or whatever, you need to get your car fixed asap before the ECU in particular is damaged. Do you have a reasonably local automotive electrical specialist you can go to for a diagnosis? And have you checked the alternator/charging system as detailed on page 5A.4 of the Haynes manual?

Agree with the man above.

One of the first symptoms is the air bag light.

The second is the radio the third a smell.

But yes get it done straight away as I have seen one where the battery went pop then there was acid in the ECU

Expensive job then :(

  • 1 year later...

Had the similar symptoms on my 1999 FeliciaLXi -very bright lights and the radio going off when I revved. Got a voltage regulator (aluminium plate held by 2 screws on the end plate of the alternator with wire lead) for 35 pence yes 35 pence from a Skoda dealer and found that it cured my problems

Also replaced the temperature sensor and it transformed the cars running
