Gearbox problems - dealership help

Featured Replies

Hey,

Got a whine in gear on the overrun which I can hear easily in 3rd/4th/5th/6th along with a lot of backlash when coming on / off the throttle. There is alsowhining when any lock is applied in gear doing slow turns such as roundabout/supermarket carpark(none when not in gear). The dealership have said that they can hear each of these issues but that the warranty company won't pay out unless it fails.

I also have a feeling of slack when you're off the throttle then apply it. This can be seen in the rev counter which will jump up 50-100 rpm and then back down. I had this logged with vcds to show them the issue and they've had to contact the technical people in main office as they don't know what it is. I could be wrong, but putting it all together - something in  the gearbox has slack which is allowing the engine to speed up momentarily before it all mates up again and carries on.  It isn't clutch slip as you can use a small amount of throttle and it does the same. You could also start in 5th gear at low rpm and accelerate hard and the clutch doesn't slip at all.

This makes no sense to me, as the way it currently is it most likely needs a new bearing somewhere costing significantly less than a whole new box  when/if it destroys itself. Can anyone offer advice, is what I'm being told correct? The gearbox is a KDN attached to a 2.0 BKD.

Thanks :)
