Issue with brakes

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Having a bit of an issue with my brakes. The disc on the passenger front seems to be scraping on the calliper. I can see the suspected part that's scraping but have no idea why, about to take it off and clean up but just wondering if anyone has any ideas?

Here it is

Sorry, won't let me edit last post. It looks to be the carrier that's causing the scratching.

Another thing spotted, should my hub be this far out? I could take the other side off and compare but I'd rather not. It doesn't look right at all to me.

The bearing isn't in properly and your hub could have gone oval now with the bearing moving in and out. That metal clip around the bearing needs to be clipped in too.

That's your problem in the second photo, as member 'Ant-Vrs' has pointed out.

Suggest new bearing to fitted ASAP with new disc, (garage job) and for the sheer hell of it new pads, their fairly cheap to replace..

Garage job, as old bearing needs to be pressed-out under loads of pressure and the same for the new bearing to refitted.

But at least you know it's fixable..

I had that bearing replaced about 6 months ago so is it safe to assume it was a badly done job?

I'll be taking it back tomorrow.

Thanks!

daz1412,

who did the engine replacement, and dealt with the DSG issue and the ESP issue,

ie who tried to fix the catalogue of faults?

EDIT, sorry you posted as i did.

 ?

So who put the bearing in?

you'll probably need to replace the hub aswell as the bearing because it'll be oval from moving in and out the hub.

I had the same problem on my mk1 fabia vrs

Bloody great. The esp fault went when I had the bearing changed, everything seemed to be linked.

How much is a new hub and bearing gonna set me back do you think?

Bearing carrier £120

Wheel bearing £115

Plus labour

See this so much of late. Either pattern bearings used or just not fitted correctly with the right tooling.

Maybe I could get the garage to sort it free of charge? It was only about 5 or 6 months ago.

Certainly would be worth mentioning.

all sorted, took it back and the garage replaced the bearing free of charge, they said they checked the hub and it was all good as I caught it early.

Cheers guys!
