New Superb III - Wheel size and pick up from dealer

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I am currently driving a Superb II Greenline Hatchback. What a car - such efficiency on fuel. Am a major motorway user, travelling around 25k miles per year.

Took my car into DM Keith in York for an attempt at repairing gears, suspected linkage problem as could no longer get into first gear. Ended up signing a PCP deal on a new Superb III SE L 2.0 TDI (190) manual.

Am really very excited about its arrival - it should be here for Tuesday!

Now, when I signed up, they were telling me that it was about a 20 week wait for a Superb III from new. I was originally wanting a 150 model, still in SE L trim, but with a few extras here and there. They told me that they had this model which was at another outlet in group. Presumably ordered by someone else, who then backed out? This is the first new car I've ever had, so I don't know how that works. Can that happen? They had better not be fobbing me off with a demonstrator model....

Anyway, I went for this on the basis that the part-ex value on my current vehicle was only going to drop - plus it was coming up for service, mot, tax renewal and the gear problem repair. The new car has some specs which I wanted, and some that I wouldn't have had. It's about £100 more per month, tho I have opted for extended warranty and full service inclusion. The only thing that worries me is that this car has 19" sirius alloys. Those are big wheels and they are not something that I would have ordered. I really wanted the 18" Pegasus option tbh. As I say, I do a LOT of motorway runs, which the 19" should be fine on, but I do live in Yorkshire and I go on my fair share of bumpy/country roads. Am worried that the 19" are going to be a) uncomfortable and B) prone to damage. Has anyone with these big wheels got any feedback/suggestions?

As far as I'm concerned, DM Keith have had a good deal with me. I didn't really push them hard in negotiation and I am paying more per month than I ever wanted to. I had test driven an Audi A6, Passat and BMW 5 series. I COULD have got relatively cheaper PCP on those cars. I even signed up for Autoglym (though I knew it wasn't neccessary) I was disappointed, frankly, when I raised the option of changing wheels they told me it would cost about £2000! I am a potentially lucrative customer for them and I feel like they might be taking me for granted. Has anyone got any tips or suggestions for when I pick the car up?

Thanks all.

Welcome

Customers certainly do back out of their order (we have at least one member on here that has done just that) check the mileage is in single figures to see if it has been used for demonstrations (mine was delivered on a transporter with 4 miles on the clock).

I have 19’s on mine and although I also have DCC I do not find them a problem even when in sport setting, the roads in Kent are not exactly great either!

You could even put up a wanted advert to swap with someone with 18” wheels, but in all honestly I do not think you would need to.

One thing I will say though is I hope you do not expect to get greenline economy out of the 190, the brochure is not even close, but it is similar to the real word figures of a 150.

I have 19"s and live in Rural Yorkshire. I've been out today to a shooting range that is at the end of a long and winding horrendously rutted muddy boggy path. The wheels are absolutely fine. I would have no worries about ride comfort or rural lanes :)

Would be tempted to offer you my 18" if your Sirius are anthracite? Skoda wanted £1,000 to change them...

How much did they charge you for the Autoglym ? If it was over £25 call 'em up and tell 'em to stuff it.....

The 18" Pegasus according to my dealer are £400 each as they are not in the accessory catalogue.  Those 18"'s that are tend to be about half the price.

I second that.

Thanks everyone for the help so far.

My order sheet shows that they charged me £470! Dear god....

Why should it not be more than £25? What should I say? I was sold it on the basis that I didn't want to run the risk of spilling a coffee on the leather seats then getting hammered for it when I traded vehicle back in.

As for wheels, thanks for reassurance as to ride etc. Is the anthracite the black alloy? My order sheet does not say anthracite in any event.

As to economy, I am under no illusions as to the difference. I'll be happy if I get 50mpg on long motorway runs tbh. I loved the greenline for economy, but it lacked in comfort and power.

Invariably Autoglym and other dealer applied paint protection is both heavily marked up and incorrectly applied. The technicians have enough to do during PDI so then rush to apply the paint protection which results in poor performance of the product. You would be better served taking that £470 and going to a professional 'Detailer' who knows what they are doing. I would advise the dealer to remove it from the invoice, they'll be making about £400 profit from you.

In terms of wheels, I too have 19s and NOT DCC, and I find the ride ok.

Thanks. Have already identified a quote from another detailer on another product. Had better ring early tomorrow morning!

Another option is to source the wheels from Superskoda - genuine EU based source - and then eBay/offer your 19" set?

Their prices are much better than UK Dealers can offer and are genuine parts.
