Free Satnav update for all Octavia iii ?

Featured Replies

Owning a very capable Octavia Scout, I was told, I'm sure, the Satnav updates were / are free of charge?

Does this mean that I download , or should I expect my dealer to update my system when the vehicle has its 1st service at the end of this month?

Secondly, how do I know which head unit I have? Having not seen the other one....the infotainment manual does not explain which is which.

Thanks,

T.M

Good to hear you're enjoying your Scout.  To check for satnav updates enter the VIN on the Skoda update portal  (also has pictures of the different units if not sure which you have).

Follow instructions to download & install any that are available, not something dealer would normally do.

When I took delivery of my Octavia SE L, which has the Amundsen satnav, I asked how to update the map data.  The salesman told me it would be done at the first service.  I'm not 100% convinced, and I think the dealer may charge to do it.  It remains to be seen.

In the brochure it says that the Amundsen has a 5.8 inch screen and the Columbus has an 8 inch screen.  Both are shown as having free updates for 3 years.

Updates are free to download for 3 years, dealers will usually charge for their time if you ask them to do it for you.

See bottom of update page:

"In case of problems or needs updating (sic), please contact the nearest service partner ŠKODA. (Note: Update on the service partner is charged according to his hourly rate.)"

It's very easy to update the maps when they are available. I would suggest getting a new SD card to download too just in case you have a problem, belt and braces. If you use the original SD card you have to delete all the files as the built in downloader can get stuck on an 'insufficient room on card' error as it deletes the old files

W11A,

Happy to help if you need it as cannot be too far from you as I am 18 miles from Salisbury too :-)

Updated mine not too long ago, you have to use your original SD card as it has some hidden areas on it but when I did mine it was not too hard, I do work in IT though :-)

You have to use the original card for the Amundsen.

It's almost a year since we took delivery of our Scout and on several occasions throughout the year, I've entered the VIN number on the portal only to be told there was no update available.

Has anyone with a MY16 Scout with Amundsen found an update for the SatNav yet?  I thought there would be at least two per year.

Updates seem to be scheduled for May & November each year. I've had my Scout just over a year, pre-registered end of 2014. Updated the Amundsen maps in May & November last year, expect another update next month.

The updates are free for you to download for the first 3 years from when the car was built.

Unless your dealer is especially nice, they will charge you for updating it.

To update the maps on my BMW it took the dealer 2 days!

I didnt ask what they were charging to leasing company for it....

The updates contain maps for MIB1 and MIB2 units so there should be 2 updates per year for MIB2 Amundsen.

If you look for the post from AndyVee with the direct download link to the update it will tell you the version number for these maps.

Check the version against what you in the car (I think its something like Menu->System Settings->Version Information)
