Hi all

 

Had car in for a service and the dealers have said i need to keep an eye on the Console bushes and drop links connections to the ARB are both perishing

They even sent me a little video showing me the exact parts which is a nice touch

 

Dealers are saying its about £480 for the console bushes to be replaced and £180 ish for the drop links

both seem a bit steep but guess this is due to striping a lot of the suspension down

 

Having a bit of a browse around and it looks like there are a fair few "Anti-Lift Kits" which basically look like the console bushes per fitted into an alloy housing

but i cant see many drop link options other than the VW racing adjustable ones which seem a bit pricey

is there any point replacing the drop links for aftermarket parts

 

Cant help think its a good excuse to get a upgraded ARB and drop links replaces together and fit the Anti-Lift Kits all for similar money to what Dealer wants for just bushes and links

 

Whats anybody reckon

I've done it myself and it was £120 for Super Pro bushes - which includes both the front and rear bushes on the wishbone but you will need someone with a press to press the new bushes in

 

and the drop links should not cost more than £50 for a pair

 

I can't see it being more than 1 hours labour per side as the only thing that needs to be removed is the wishbone / ball joints and console housing to access the bushes

The OEM bushes cost about £6 each and the droplinks can be had pretty cheap too. You can choose OEM bushes that are voided, partially voided or non-voided depending how much less play versus greater comfort you want

Jeeezz Dealer wanted nearly £500 to replace just the console bushes

apreciate they will remove the bracket/housing and press out/in the bushes but £500

 

Shark gave me a quote for both ARB's, droplinks and WALK and the fitting was only £90+ VAT (1.5 hours work)

admitadly the price of the parts brings the total up to £700 odd quid but ignoring that as there not like for like with OEM

 

not sure what the dealers are basing there prices on

That price is ridiculous.

 

Even if the droplinks have to be cut off it's only an hour per side in the worst possible case.

 

The console bushes are 3 bolts per side.  That's 30mins per side R&R plus 10 minutes to belt them off with a rubber mallet.  Allow 30minutes per side to change the bush in the housing (if they don't buy the housing with the bush already fitted).  Those times I've given are very generous and are what it would take an apprentice who has never done the job.

 

The dealership is having a lend of you.  Find a good independent garage and it will be half that cost

Down here the dealerships charge anywhere from AUD140 to AUD200 which is a bit of a joke when the techs are on AUD30/hr. 

 

The independent I go to charges AUD120/hr.

 

As I said, I've been really generous with my times.  If you have the right tools, have done it before and don't have any excessively corroded bolts you could take 30%-50% off those times
