Min/max temperature range for Bolero (and Amundsen) infotainment system

Featured Replies

The Bolero unit in my new last Thursday Superb SE would not switch on when I first tried it (21:00) nor the next day in the morning (09:00). It started working around midday and stopped later in the evening. Same again Friday, Saturday and today, plus works after ~30mins driving. Skoda CS "never heard of that before". Today, I checked the temp. when not working - 5 centigrade.

I just checked the operating manual, which says (p7) -

"Operating temperature not maintained. The infotainment system will be
switched off. - The device temperature is too low or too high, the device
switche
s itself off"

Has anyone experienced this problem? Or does anyone know the actual figures for auto switch off?  Five degrees surely cannot be correct?

The range would be more like -30...+60 or so.

No problems at -18 (mine's amundsen). Go for a warranty service.

Thanks for info. Guess I have to bite the bullet or live with it.  (From past experience I try to avoid main dealer servicing and use a good local independent with "real" mechanics.)

This is just an update, not so much on the "Bolero not working" issue, it's still there. I didn't realise how much I value the radio until I had a 50 minute, mainly free running M6 journey, on Friday morning in total silence.

Apart from getting it fixed, the issue has become about the struggle with both Skoda UK and the local dealer (who didn't supply the car) to react properly. They have difficulty with the concept that a fault which occurs regularly and consistently under defined conditions is not an intermittent fault!

The local dealer initially responded that they wouldn't be able to provide warranty service unless the fault was present on delivery at their premises. Eventually I persuaded them to take it in Saturday morning, supported by a video of the non working Bolero, look at it Monday morning and provide a courtesy car. (More of that later.)

Skoda UK "customer relations" agreed, after a robust discussion, to support my claim and contact the dealer to "encourage them"

I took the car in yesterday (Saturday), where the guy in service was not the one I had spoken to, plus Skoda UK had not contacted them.  Fortunately, his colleague had noted our discussion so I showed him two videos and he agreed the unit was not working. Next point - Dealer needs to send copy of videos to Skoda UK to get Warranty Service authorised. He said send by email. Told him I'd tried that - bounced by their server because email too big. He gave me an alternative email address - tried it when got home, bounced by server again. Posted to youtube, OK

Then came the Courtesy car. After a long time checking driving licence, N I number, was informed I'm not eligible for a car - no insurance cover because I'M TOO OLD.  I'm 79, 80 next week.

Does anyone know how much it'll cost me if the car comes with the fault unfixed and I decide to reject it?

So, older drivers beware . You're young enough to buy a car from Skoda, but too old to get decent service when your brand new car is delivered with a fault. FWIW, I was left to get home 15 miles away.

Courtesy car. Age

If a Dealership carrying out a Warranty Repair have not the Insurance Cover to Provide a Courtesy car then Skoda UK the Warranty Provider should arrange a Hire Vehicle, or one of their Management Cars with Appropriate Cover, maybe one currently being Driven by a Senior Dealership Employee as a Tax Advantage perk.

You have valid Car insurance, and likely 3rd Party Cover on other cars, and the Dealership is in the Motor Trade and full of BS.

If they can not assist,

have Skoda UK arrange collection of your vehicle for repair and the dropping off of a Like for Like Vehicle with Insurance while they are fixing your vehicle correctly.

PS
Many happy returns on your Birthday.

That is absolutely outrageous, and unbelievable, name and shame the crap dealer, so we can all stay well away from them.

With regards to the fault, you have video evidence, you have gone down the correct route to get this resolved, Skoda are fully aware, what i do not understand is why the dealer does not want to repair under warranty, just because they did not supply the vehicle ??????

Its a warranty issue, my company Octavia had a faulty rear wash feed pipe which leaked washer fluid into the passenger footwell, took it to Winchester Motor Company, who did not supply the vehicle and they fixed it without any issues, fantastic service from them and of course they recharge Skoda UK for the warranty work.

I really do not understand this, you should be able to take your vehicle to any Authorised Skoda Dealer for warranty work, without question, I would want a full written explanation from Skoda on this issue, appealing is all i can say.

I do. Discussed that - they said comprehensive on other cars is required

and the Dealership is in the Motor Trade and full of BS.

How true.
