Egr Cleaned and replaced but car wont start?

Featured Replies

I removed, cleaned then replaced the EGR valve Tuesday evening successfully and drove it fine all day yesterday. Now today I jump in to take my youngest to nursery and it won't start, it's turning over ok but won't start, it's as though it's not getting diesel, WTF is going on??? Please help!!!

Sorted now, just needed a long turn of the ignition key (15 seconds +) and she finally fired up, a mechanic mate thinks it's fuel related and suggested changing the fuel filter as there may be water within. I've just taken her for a spin now and she started first time!

By the way, the cleaning of the EGR has massively improved the driveability of the car, much smoother idling and improved throttle response, she feels like a new car again. Before cleaning it I honestly thought I had issues with my engine mounts and gearbox but all that delayed response and jerking has gone, all from a little build up of carbon... bonkers!

Could be air in the fuel from a loose pipe somewhere that you have disturbed. You wouldn't think this would happen with the fuel system being pressurised from the tank to the tandem pump and then to the injectors but it does happen

I did have a little trouble getting the big pipe on the bottom of the egr unit to sit properly after refitting everything, just been out now to check wiggled the pipe and it clicked, maybe it was not sealed allowing in too much air, cheers for the heads up!
