Clutch connecting to first gear when foot all the way down.

Featured Replies

Hello,

My fabia 06reg vrs seems to be on a cycle with the the clutch messing about. It'll be fine for ages then for a few days this happens:

I'll have the car in first at a junction ready to pull away with my foot all the way down on the clutch.... however I'll feel it connect first gear slightly and try and pull the car forward. If i try and take it out of gear I have to really yank the gear stick. And it clonks out of gear. If I am in a position to be able to move the car forward when this happens when it's moved a little way and I put my foot back down I can get it out of gear without having to yank it.

Does the clutch need bleeding? Or could it be something else? I don't want to mess up my gearbox!

Like I said sometimes I drive it and it's absolutely fine, then other days it does this!

Thanks.

Pretty sure this is the common shim required in the end of gearbox to remove the play in the gear shaft.

Been covered on here a bit :)

Hopefully it is just the shim required at the accesible end as kev says- or the shaft play is at the other side so its box rebuild time.......try the cheap simple one as explained in the link first.

Thanks. Any idea how much it's likely to cost?

The parts aren't much over £10,and a garage will do it in half an hour easily :)

I did mine on the drive just putting the car on full lock to the left and worked through the gap :D
