Front seat swap.

Featured Replies

We’ve had the Octavia a few weeks now and so far I’m loving it.  The car definitely needs a remap as it feels pretty uninspiring in standard tune and maybe a set of lowering springs would help with the tractor ride height.  These can wait though as there’s a more pressing issue – SWMBO’s legs.

The thing that I hadn’t factored in when test driving the car on my own was the wife’s legs.  They are too short for the vRS seats.  I must say at first I thought she was being picky but no, the seat base is too long for her little legs and she can’t get comfy as the end of the seat base rubs the back of her calf.  This is the first car that she’s ever had problems with.  I totted up that this is the 18th car I’ve owned and never before has a seat caused her problems.  Now that I've looked at the design they do seem longer than most seat bases.

I must say that the standard seats are a bit pants anyway but I could live with them.  What I can’t live with is the wriggling and the tutting that seems to happen when I’m not on my own in the car.  I need your help on this one as I really need to source some seats that are going to be suitable and allow us to split the driving on longer journeys as the wife says she doesn’t feel comfortable enough to drive.

I’m aware that seats from a MK5/6 Golf will fit in theory with the possibility that the airbag plugs might need swapping over but any advice on the issue would be welcome.

We have bought a lumbar booster type thing which will do for now but ideally a couple of front seats that do the job would be preferable.

Cheers,

Andrew.

IIRC a wide range of VAG seats should fit, so not just golf seats but also Audi, Seat and of course other Skodas. As you note, main issue is with the airbag connectors but numerous folk on here seem to have overcome that.

Yeah.  I've been looking on ebay and there are absolutely loads of seats for sale that would fit in theory.  What I don't want to do however, is make the mistake of buying some seats & then find that all the VAG stuff from the same era is a similar design and I'm back to square one again.

Has anyone reading this got anything other than the original seats in their cars at the moment?  If so, I'd appreciate a measurement of the seat base down the centre line from the rear to the front of the seat so I can compare with the original.

Why was your wife's legs in the car whilst you were test driving it   :notme:

I don't know if the VRS seats are any different to other Octavias or to my leather seats in the L&K but I find them to be the exact opposite as the cushions to short and narrow ... mind you that could down partly to by big rear end but they're certainly smaller than any other car I've owned

Ha! I guess it does read like that but maybe it would have been a good idea as there'd be less of an issue now.

As my username suggests, I'm not the chubbiest of people and I'm finding these seats quite unsupportive. The Recaros I had in the VXR were so much nicer and even hugged me! I know people are different shapes & sizes but compared to my Mk1 vRS the stock seats in this car are a bit of a disappointment.

So if you know of a seat that's too short & too narrow for most people then by the sound of it that'd suit us just fine.

I have Audi A6 s-line ones in and they fit great, plus you can adjust the main base for short or long legged people

Are they a simple plug & play solution?

Dead easy, the std seats and runners just unbolt

Sounds like my kind of swap over.  Did you source them through ebay?

About £250 off eBay

If you go to any local meets this summer I'll have a look if that's okay?  I'd like to see them first before spending any cash on something that might still not be suitable.

If your anywhere near York, you are more than welcome for a brew and look see.
