3rd Service Most Expensive?

Featured Replies

Just booked my 3rd service and was told it would be £309. I was under the impression it was a minor service but they said when the car is less than 3 years old that is not the case. So is it correct the third service is the a full and more expensive service? Wish I was told this when I bought the car.

Minor Service - £139.

Major Service - £259.

Ask them what you're getting for the extra £50.

*In fact, as a major service is every 24 months I wouldn't even be paying £259 again this year.

Its needs a brake fluid change at 3 years. But I should not be having 2 majors in a row? First 10,000 was £139, then last year was £259, why am i paying the big price again?

Isn't it just a brake fluid top-up after 3 years?

Isn't it just a brake fluid top-up after 3 years?

its supposed to be but they are saying otherwise!

I think there's 3 different services, at least that's how I understood the dealer when they told me.

Something along the lines of:

1st = Oil & filter change.

2nd = Oil & filter change, pollen filter change, visual inspection of everything.

3rd= Everything above + Air filter change (?depending on mileage), brake fluid change, ?Wheels off - brake inspect/clean. Anything else that needs doing.

Not sure when they do glow plug (if at all) and fuel filter changes or on a diesel.  Coolant also used to need renewing and the system flushed, but I think it's all long life coolant on new engines.

Basically 2nd service is the 'Interim/Minor' service. 3rd is the 'Major' service. 1st is there because newer engines allegedly don't need as much in the way of maintenance.

Brake fluid needs to be changed periodically as it can deteriorate over time, and has the potential to absorb moisture making it less effective/more prone to failure.

Thanks for the replies. Just got through to the garage themselves instead of the call centre that deal with bookings. They told me that it is only £139 plus £49 for the brake fluid. They also said no one from the call centre had phoned them to confirm the price so the call centre were obviously telling me a load of porkies.

All sorted now.

3rd Service is oil and filter only, just had mine done at 18 months old.

it would seem that the call centre is the weak link in most cases...

I just use the hot line to the service manager James :)
