Crap brakes on the vRS

Featured Replies

Still not happy with the pedal travel and stopping distance on the vRS.

312mm discs seem to be the recommened thing at the moment, but has anyone looked at the real cause of the problem.

It seems we get the same small 8.5" servo as the base model Golf's and Seat Ibiza's and a puny 20.64mm master cylinder pushing the fluid around.

The TT and Leon get 312mm calipers, 10" servo's and 23.81mm master cylinders to do their business, heavy cars compared to the Furby, but all capable of 130mph+.

So is the route of our problem, the pushing power, not disc size,

could it be changed, or would the whole ABS system need swapping too ??????

You could be right, but as I see it changing the discs and calipers is an easy and achievable fix. A bigger servo would make a difference, but you could still be left with potential fading problems on your 288 disc setup and the mother of all jobs trying to get the bigger servo in.

Having fitted the 312's I was initially a bit dissappointed, but after about 1000 miles they really have got very close to what the car needed. The pedal is harder, higher and they don't grab like I thought they might. They are not perfect, but they are a lot better.

Yep stock brakes are rubbish! 312mm's for me in the new year

Mine stops OK. Alright they are not the best I've had but they are fine for normal diving. If I was going on to track then I would get bigger calipers.

To sum up IMHO I wont be changing them cos they are adequate:thumbup::cool:

I must be the only guy that toasted 312mm discs in less than 4k, I fitted them under standard wheels and they were crap, kept cooking.

I assume they work better under 17s but I'm back to standard with upgraded fluid ( Dot 4 Castrol R ) and the brakes work fine.
