Brakes a bit hard

Featured Replies

If you disconnect the ABS system from the other car, it will feel the same. I've driven a 307 PUG with an ABS error in the dashboard and the brake was exactly the same as in mine (cars without abs are getting rare nowadays and it's difficult to have make a comparison). As long it's ok on a brake testing stand, it's fine to me. Don't mess with the brakes. Keep them as OEM as possible. Well..I'm talking about OEM .. and thinking about yellowstuff. Well, at least the system.

Hi Wino, did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I'm in a similar situation, brakes are OK but not great, I've replaced disks, pads and fluids which has helped a bit but they're still a bit crap. I've checked all the vacuum hose, all in great condition and no leaks (tested with bubble mixture all around). The hoses continue to hold a vacuum after leaving the car off too. Passes the "pump the brakes then hold and start the car" test fine too. No ABS on mine. I think this may be time to replace the servo, but like you I'm surprised that it could be working to some extent, but not at full efficiency.

Nope. I think it's servo-related. The first bit of pedal travel feels correctly assisted; but deeper press and it feels unassisted.

I asked one of the online breakers for a quote for the part number etka suggested and went off that idea immediately when they offered one up at £75!
