Do I need Gap Insurance?

Featured Replies

Hi

Having taken delivery of my new Octavia on the 30th April and with the 5 day cover note expiring tonight I'm hoping someone can advise me if the wording of my new policy means I will receive the exact same car in the event the car is written off within the first 12 months of ownership?

In other words do I have 'new for old' cover?

Having received a very competitive quote from GapInsurance.co.uk I'm not sure whether or not I can schedule the policy to take effect 12 months from now or whether it should commence with immediate effect?

My thanks in advance

Hi,

It would appear that this is new car replacement. Most insurers offer this on a standard comprehensive car policy as long as it's a brand new car and you are the first keeper and that a replacement car is available.

If you wanted any further details probably easier just to give your insurer a ring to confirm all the full terms and conditions.

Regards,

Dan.

An old thread I know but we're in the same situation with my wife's new Citigo.

Her insurer will replace the car if written off in the first year of registration.

Can we get Gap insurance beginning on the second year of registration?

Hi RickW,

Yes we can provide our own GAP style cover if you have a policy through Flux.  We can provide our 'Agreed Valuation' cover which pays out the difference between the insurer payout and the valuation you have placed on the vehicle.

Also, we offer 'Total Loss Protection' which pays out an additional 25% (up to £10K) above the insurer payout in the event of a total loss claim.

I hope that this is acceptable.

Regards,

Dan
