'56 plate VRS oil pressure warning

Featured Replies

About 5 months ago I had an issue where the oil pressure warning light would come on for a brief moment then come off. I took my car to a garage to check whether indeed there was an issue with the pressure, and a oil pressure gauge was plumbed in. My mechanic took the car for a spin noting what the oil pressure readings should be and nothing was wrong. The car had undergone a full service approximately 6-7k miles beforehand and was coming up to its yearly service so once again service items were replaced.

Since then the car has been fine. During normal and spirited driving no warning lights would come on, then suddenly it has started up again. The car doesn't really use much oil (very strange as they normally do), and there's no cross contamination between oil and water I can gather.

My mechanic is confident the pump is still ok and delivering the correct pressure so has suggested to undo the oil pressure connecter, give this a clean and also try and squeeze the contacts in a bit more to ensure they definitely are making connection. If the problem persists he suggests changing the oil pressure sensor/switch itself.

This series of 'to do's' has also been confirmed by a local VAG tuner as well, as they too say I would have definitely have had problems should it have been the car was genuinely suffering from low oil pressure.

Should the connector clean up and possible sensor/switch replacement still cause the occasional light to flash up I'll have it plumbed in again before investigating further.

However in preparation for this, has anyone ever experienced this issue? And if so what did you try to rectify it?

Thanks
