pd 130 screeching sound when accelerating

Featured Replies

Hi

My pd tdi 130 has started making a screeching type of sound when accelerating, it seems to be coming from the egr area and can sometimes see some white smoke coming from the same area when revving, it happens in neutral as well as in gear however there is no loss of power, i found a video which is similar so you guys can hear it and help me out please.

Sounds like leak to me..

I know someone who did egr delete and had similar sound when gasket wasn't good fit.

Hope you get the fix from the experienced guys on here.

Sounds like turbo siren.... of doom. But hope im wrong :(

Boost leak, check all pipes and clips.

Thats not the turbo siren i've heard btw, so not likley to be turbo failure.

Have to agree with Hutchy, it's the sound I've heard several times now :p

I have similar on mine, only happens when I'm giving it some beans, not quite as loud as that but I figured it was some kind of leak either from the air intake or turbo, I can also smell exhaust fumes when i'm travelling slowly, I thought this might be just when I'm in traffic but it's never really been there before I had this slight whistle/screeching.

Time to check hoses?

Hi I had this problem, it tuned out to be the exhaust manifold gasket

A boost leak isnt good for the turbo if thats what you mean.

As hutchy said fix asap, I had two turbo failures due to over boosting from a boost leak.

Any idea on my screech stevo?

Any idea on my screech stevo?

Sounds just like mine, (no screeching heard, I admit) and does effect the performance in any way..

Keep motoring till somethings pops...

No screeching heard?? Did you have the volume turned up are you talking about my vid or the original video?

Timing belt pulley? Water pump?

Sound mechanical to me. Have you tried spray any lubricant onto the pulleys as TMB has pointed out to see if it changes the noise at all

Does it do it when the car is cold or only when hot? Sounds like the turbo, especially as noise coming from under the egr, where the turbo lives......

It's all the time mate from start up constantly. Stopped driving it Was doing my head in . A few people have said it sounds like it could be a dry bearing on the timing belt side. The turbo was a new unit Around 15k miles ago

Mine does this too. Has done it since 20K-ish. I think it's louder now. It used to be more of a groan than a screech but it's progressed.

Am really hoping the OP does the leg work and figures out an easy fix. :)

Mine does it on medium or heavier acceleration from somewhere above 2K RPM to around 3K rpm.

As it seems defined by rev range and acceleration, I'm thinking it might be related to the turbo VNT moving.
