Moose's VAG-COM help thread

Featured Replies

Please help me. I have: a laptop, a Fabia, a copy of VAG-COM 311-2 and a serial cable.

Ok, I've got power to the laptop at last. Thats going fine, cable is wired up and I go into VAG-COM, test COM 1 and it likes it. Do the Compatibility check and it says my car is not OBD-II compatible. It says no response, try one of the modules, I try one and it also says no response.

Any ideas?

Is the ignition on? Sounds like the cable isn't plugged in or there is no power. Module 1 (Engine) should at least tell you what model of ECU you have (engine doesn't need to be running, but the additional voltage might help if it is).

Yep, I had the engine running

Not sure what to suggest.

Can you check COM 1 on the laptop with something else to make sure the laptop's comms work OK?

Then check the Vag-Com connector - there needs to be at least 3 or 4 pins in the connector shell (the others aren't used by Vag-Com). Often the earth pin is slightly longer than the others so it makes contact first. Check for bent/loose pins, and see if there are scratch marks where the connector is mated to the car's socket. Many Vag-Com leads have an LED which lights up (or changes colour) to indicate a good connection.

Else try and find somebody else with a lead and check theirs on your motor.

I don't think I have anything serial left for a PC now. Its all USB.

The connector is brand new and all the pins seem good, I can't see a longer pin mind. No LED either. It cost me £13 on fleabay from the states.

So, I could give Rooboy a call I guess.

Thanks for trying though, appreciated.

I predict this thread being well used tomorrow ;)

I plugged it in better. It seems that you really do need to ensure a good contact is made at the OBD-II port end. The cable I got cost me

We got it working didn't we? It had a few problems, but I'm not sure why. Its mega quick on my Fabia, it could be yours was a 55 reg? A vRS? Or the remap? Anyone else know why this 55 reg Fabia was acusing problems?

Yeah, though maybe I just didnt push the plug in far enough or something... Thought it was in as far as it could go, but might be wrong.

Anyway, I need to change something now. Beep on unlock is most annoying when you have the "first click drivers, second all doors" feature switched on! Beep on lock is good though

Must order my own cable!

Well, you have my number, if you come local, I'm nearly always about.

I'm Looking to invest in a VAG-COM set up to use with my Octavia L&K 1.9tdi 03 plate. I have had a climate control issue for some time and want to investigate before taking it in to the dealer.

I have read more and more about interfaces etc CAN non can K line etc.......To the point I have confussed the issue.

What interface cable do I need????? and are any on ebay from the states OK? I have a decent laptop and will be using USB.

Cheers for any help that can be given

I got mine from that company and no problems at all. If you have the Octy 1 then you don't need CAN-BUS, that cable would seem to be fine.
