Annoying Rattle from Driver Rear

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My 2012 Octavia vrs tdi was developed an annoying Rattle from the rear. I would say it's coming from underneath although can be certain. It sounds like metal rattling against metal. You can only hear it when going over bumps/rougher roads.

I've had a look on the search but can't really find anything conclusive.

Last Sunday I jacked it up had a look underneath but I couldn't see anything. Thought it had then gone but now it's defo back.

Any thoughts people?

Cheers

Have you checked that you disc backing plates are secure? It's a common enough problem that corrosion around the bolts allows the plate to move and you get metal on metal rattling.

I'll throw it up on the jack quick. I guess the best place for the axle stands is where rear sub frame meets the chassis.

I had this. The clips holding the shield over the top of the back box rotted and it was flapping around. New clips sorted the problem.

I had this over potholes and rough ground when I had a broken spring. Slightly worse when cornering in one direction over bumps.

I too had an annoying rattle coming from the rear of the car, bit it always seemed to stop whenever the wife got out   :D
