Hi all,

 

On a trip to France last week I noticed that pressing the A/C button didn't seem to make the air coming out of the vents any colder. The button lights up but the air seems just as warm (even turned down fully cold) this was pretty unpleasant in 20+ degree conditions.

 

Does anyone have any advice for me? I'm hoping i'll get away with a regas but not sure if it will need more. for reference it's a 2001 51 reg octavia Ambiente estate

ok thanks i was going to do that, just didn't want to waste money gassing up a system that had leaks or something in it

How long have you had the car, do you know when it was last done?

Could they check for leaks before they gas it? Do they do that anyway? To be honest I've never owned a car for long enough to need to do it although I will be doing it this summer.

Do you have VagCom? Run a scan to see if there are any fault codes because there is a high pressure sensor that can break down. If there aren't any faults just regas it. It's the installer's responsibility to check if there any leaks and he has to inform you, not yours.

nope I don't have VagCom, I think i'll just take it down to the place that does it for £30 and see what they say

i'm sure nobody is still following this but just in case, I got a regas and the A/C is perfect now! the machine recovered precisely NOTHING from the system, meaning it was completely empty. definitely worth £30 and a half hour wait
