Fabia 1 estate central locking woes and tailgate not opening.

Featured Replies

Hi,

Ever since buying my 2003 Fabia 1 Estate three years ago I've had central locking problems. The doors would lock themselves randomly whether the car was moving or not, sometimes as soon as you set off and sometimes an hour or more into a journey. Once it locked itself, luckily in my driveway, with the engine off and keys in the ignition. The driver's courtesy light didn't work and neither did the lights on warning buzzer. The tailgate would only open one in ten times so I usually had to open a rear passenger door and then it would release. The boot light was hit and miss too.

Anyway the lack of courtesy light over the dark winter nights really annoyed me so I ordered a new driver's door central locking mechanism from eBay (about £35 I think) and I fitted it last week during the sunny weather. It took me about four hours taking it nice and steady and was a bit fiddly but not too bad. I can now report all the problems I mention have been sorted, everything works as it should. I wouldn't have thought what in effect was a broken microswitch in the lock could affect everything else so much. We live and learn!

Cheers,

Andy.

Yep, all classic symptoms of microswitch failure (the external one on the lock mechanism). You can actually buy the microswitches separately now on ebay.
