Handbrake cable replacement?

Featured Replies

Has anyone replaced both handbrake cables on a vRS?

How much trim do you have to remove, no idea where the cables are routed at the moment.

Is it an easy enough job to do on axel stands?

Since you have axle stands will be easy, but not that easy. First remove the console above the handbrake, remove the cable bolts (one bolt in the middle of a metal piece attached to the cables) which hold the cables to the handbrake and then raise the car, remove the rear wheels so you can get some access behind them, undo the cables from the caliber (if it had drums you would have to open them) and then try to remove the cables from the clips that hold them under the car (attached to the chassis) and try to free them slowly with direction from the handbrake to the wheels.

I found the hardest part was getting the outer cables from the metal tubes that guide them into the car. I don't think mine had been done in the 12 tears the cars been alive so found they were corroded in. Ended up using grips to twist them slowly from side to side, they came out with a load of "powder" corrosion from the steel cable grommit and the alloy tube .

All good though even taking my time both were done in 30 mins or so. :)
