Dead climate control mk1 octavia vrs

Hi guys has anyone had any experience of the climate control being totally blank and unresponsive in a mk1 octavia vrs? It doesn't even light up with the headlights

I have checked the fuses and all seem fine?? Just wondering if I'm missing something? I have also tried search but to no avail

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Jim.

Have you checked the relays?

No not yet, didn't know it had any

Usually there are several relays in a car, one of them is responsible for cutting power to some high-current draw devices (such as the AC fan) when cranking. I don't have the current flow diagrams of your Octavia, but it is worth checking.

The easiest way is to swap the faulty with one from another car or one from the same car if there is of the same kind and see if this fixes the problem.

 

Otherwise you have to remove it, find its datasheet online and test it on a bench with external 12V power source.
