Opening on top of gearbox housing

Featured Replies

Hi all, Just been checking the air filter when i notice below there is a round hole in the top of the bell housing about an inch and a quarter in size where i can see the teeth of the flywheel, Never noticed it before, Is there supposed to be a cover over this hole or is it normal to open like that, Took some pics but don't know how to upload them on here..

Done it  :D

Yeah pretty normal. Sometimes has a rubber bung in it but they often drop out. Not earth shatteringly important.

Thanks, I was concerned about water and muck getting in there, But if it was only a rubber bung i'll see about getting another one from somewhere, Thanks again

Yes the hole has to be there for technicians to find the timing mark while cambelt is done. Probably someone forgot to reinstall the bung, you can find a used or a new one. It won't be that expensive.

One of my cars has the same!
