Samsung Gear VR Oculus

Featured Replies

I just bought one of these for a giggle. I recall putting the headset on about an hour ago, then I became very hot and I nearly killed my phone battery. What happened ?? :)

If anyone out there fancies one I can thoroughly recommend one. The quality isn't great (you can see the phone pixels...OLEDs) but the experience is buttery smooth and there is lots of free and totally immersive stuff out thee. I even had a quick look up at Everest, Nice view :D

It's amazing what your phone can do with 360 graphics and it even seems to work very smoothly with the Powersaver function on (probably should have tried that first :D)

Anyone else out there playing with one?

Very interested one. Tempted now to try one out

The only thing that disappoints is the lack of definition, but after a minute or so, you don't ever think about it again. Moving your head hard left and right, up or down, the image moves so smoothly it makes you wonder what on earth they put in these phones! If you put the cover on over the phone (not necessary in my experience, your phone can get seriously hot and show a thermal warning. I left the cover off (no light gets in, even with my phone being an edge) and after an hour it is still running strongly and hot too hot.

There are loads of free games, but after getting cramp in my shoulders, I think I might need to invest in a Bluetooth games controller. As it is, you touch the side of the headset where the controls are and my weedy arms got sore after an hour or so :D

Motion sickness isn't too bad, although it was touch and go after 10 minutes, I did seem to push through that phases and had no real problems afterwards. There is a great tightrope walk, were you walk between two peaks! and in one demo I looked down whilst on a snowy mountain and found I was wearing skis :D Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I think I need to try all this with a serious amount of alcohol inside me, it should be really trippy :)

Yep, we have one at work - it's great. Relatively cheap as well I think.

I'm currently working with the IT boys to develop a VR walkthrough of one of my warehouses for the client - basically to demonstrate an order through the warehouse from inbound, pick, pack, and despatch.

Pictures will be done through a Ricoh Theta 360 camera.

They're around £80 all in (obviously you need to supply the phone). Not sure if it's just a gimmick that I'll tire of quickly, but it's a hoot in the short term :)

Much cheaper for when the novelty wears off: https://www.google.co.uk/get/cardboard/

Managed to get one from eBay for a good price.

What game controller where you looking at. The single remote type or game pad one?

Is it better than 3D cinema?

By that I mean does everything look like stacked up cardboard cutouts

I managed to flatten my batteries and overheat my phone playing the 'Bait' fishing game :)

Tried one of those and after I think I turned green I felt so unwell.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds like motion sickness. Do you suffer with it usually?

Not really although same does happen when I go to watch 3D films at the cinema, maybe I am just weird  :D

Definitely sounds like motion sickness to me.

I think there is a disclaimer that warns of Motion Sickness. Iirc it recommends taking short bursts at the VR thing until you accustomed to it.

Nope about 10% of people can't tolerate 3D.

I'm another one, Cinema 3D gives me headaches and makes me queasy.
