Loss of power around 2000 RPM

Featured Replies

Having completed around 300 miles in my Superb I have noticed a particularly annoying 'hole' in the power between 1500-2000 RPM

Spoke to the dealer and one of the techy chaps and he said they have a few people complain about it but nothing they can do with it as it's the way EGR operates, didn't really have time to debate but have booked it in for them to have a look in proper.

Anybody else having this issue ?

Cheers

What type of engine captain ?

Me too, I get a similar feeling but only in first gear! It starts to go then almost stops accelerating which gives quite a jerky driving experience.

I have adjusted my driving around this though by using first to literally get me rolling fast enough for an early change to 2nd gear! When not in a rush the relaxed change makes for smooth progress so I'm not too bothered by it.

For info, this has been present on every VAG group TDI car I've ever owned but to lesser degrees on all of them. Tis just engine mapping I suppose and doesn't cut in on spirited take offs or full bore drag starts, only on light to medium throttle applications.

I have noticed this as well and also a flat spot at around 1750 revs, when in sports mode I have found it easier to set off smoothly in first gear as it does not seem to cut the power so much.

what you've been told about egr operation by the dealer is correct.

Is there anything they can do to rectify it as I'm having the same problem on my OCTAVIA VRS 64 plate. They have told me it's a carataristic of the car.

TBH I am not really happy with the answer. No fault is coming up on there computers.

Any advice of what to do next would be great

Thanks

There is no fix, it's a characteristic of the way the ecu controls power delivery to preserve the flywheel and operate the egr system correctly.

My 190 seems to have a fairly narrow power and torque band. Nothing happens below 2000 rpm and its all over at 4000 rpm. The DSG doesn't seem to help matters when it downshifts to about 4500 rpm, lots of noise and not much else.

The previous CFGB engine felt superior in every way: power delivery, fuel consumption and noise. Is it me or does the 190 sound like a clattery old Peugeot from 1995?

I really expected more from one of VW's latest TDI engines. BiTurbo or petrol next time....... :|
