Amundsen sound quality

Featured Replies

I've had my VRS for almost 3 months now and have to say I'm fairly impressed with the standard Amundsen sound system.

I was a little worried about the comments from everyone saying it's poor and the Canton isn't that much better, but having adjusted the settings to my liking I'm really happy with the quality.

Last week we went away with some friends and I was asked 'Where's the sub woofer?' because the sound was so good.

The friend who asked drives an Audi S5 with the Bose sound system so is used to very good sound in the car.

The lack of CD player takes some getting used to, but the Bluetooth streaming, USB and SD card more than make up :)

I am reasonably satisfied with my Columbus - I am assuming the speakers and amp are pretty much the same as the Amundsen and it is just the head unit which is slightly different?

I do wish I had the Canton, but as I bought an ex-demo, it wasn't an option i had!

It does err towards the harsh side, but I have tweaked the treble down a bit and I am hoping that when I tame the signature resonance/boom/tyre noise of the car with some sound-deadening in the boot, the bass will shine through a little more and the whole system will balance out.

It is still streets ahead of the factory system I had in my Mazda 6 and Subaru Forester...the Bose in my Murano was definitely better in terms of sound quality though.

In terms of features, I certainly wouldn't want to be without the Car Play and the Bluetooth etc given I have nearly 800 albums on my phone which I now get to take with me everywhere I drive, so in that respect it is a winner!

Glad to hear that as i have the standard system coming in my VRS, with all the negative comments i  thought it was going to be like listing to a 1920's record player !

And the DAB radio is great too.
