Timing chain adivce needed

Featured Replies

Hello,

First off, I apologize for any mistakes, I am not a native English speaker.

I drive a 2008 Skoda Fabia 1.2 12v. Due to bad maintenance by the owner, it's in need of a premature timing chain replacement (or at least that's the current diagnostic).

On a quick site note: The check engine light came on about 8 months ago and the owner, didn't pay attention to it. I've only recently started driving it and noticed over the past 3 weeks a decline in acceleration and higher fuel consumption, and it's generally feeling more sluggish.

I took it in for a test and it came up with a camshaft position sensor error.

After further testing, the mechanic concluded that the timing chain is actually looser than it should be and it along with the other components should be replaced. This is all based on computer readings, not physical confirmation. Also the chain doesn't rattle, or at least I don't notice a change in how it sounds.

Assuming that's indeed the problem, what timing chain kit brands would you recommend (and are they OEM)? Or individual component brands?

Thank you in advance.

Buy the genuine items, they are cheap enough these days and have a 2 year warranty.
