Brand new Skoda - AC not working

Featured Replies

Picked up my brand new Octavia VRS estate - last Thursday, on the Friday realised that the Aircon doesn't work - you can hear it going full blast, but there is no air coming out of the vents.

It's gone in today, to which they phoned me and advised they did a software update it was fixed and ready for collection, 10 minutes later they phoned back and advised that it stopped working again - has anyone else had this issue and had it fixed relatively quickly.

Hi Emma. I recently found my air-con to be running quite warm, although the blowers were blowing air into the cabin. The car coolant temperature then got quite hot, so I took it back to the dealer.

They promptly diagnosed a failed cooling fan. With this replaced the air con blows cold again and, importantly, the engine temperature is stable.

Not much help here, but, I have found the Skoda A/C to be pretty disappointing..

I came form Mercedes, so was maybe spoiled slightly. My E Class was 10 years old though and it was still miles ahead of whats in the VRS...

Not every problem can be fixed by software updates. This is lame fault diagnosis.

Next attempt will be a dashboard change out...

Are the manual vent dials set to open? Silly question maybe but one should always start with the basics.

No air is coming out at all. Sounds like a different problem.

I have found mine pretty good compared to my 2009 Mazda 6! Cools and heats pretty well.

Sorry Emma - doesn't help your fault...

Good luck getting it fixed.

I was hoping it would be magically fixed without having to butcher the dash :(

Yes I've set them to " open" and then to "closed" in case they were put upside down inside out....if you catch my drift!

I'll await todays update

I say dashboard change out in jest.

Software could be issue as the ventilation is digitally controlled, perhaps a relay problem or just a case of open wiring in the ventilation circuit.

Good luck. Hope it's fixed before the heatwave dissipates.

Never owned or had a car (long term) with working Air Con, I am officially spoilt.

I do find the first blow to be a bit warm but within a second it is cool. TBH I don't often use it. Most of the time the windows are open unless I'm doing over 40MPH or it's raining/cold.

A few years ago I bought a brand new Seat Ibiza from a branch of "Europe's Largest Car Dealer". It was the top of the range version and my first venture into German Engineering. Had driven the car for 10 minutes when I realised that there was no chilled air coming from the Climate Control System. Took it back straight away and they flat-out said it was working when it was checked before they handed it over. After 30 mins they said they needed to keep the car and gave me a loan car. On walking out to it I could see my new car being worked on. Several days later I went back to collect it and they said that they had had to remove the dashboard to fix it. Thus began a litinay of rattles, electrical failure, electronic failure and various other issues which ended with me writing to a Director of Seat UK, being interviewed by Which magazine and getting a replacement new car.

I would find out what is actually being done and if it involves major surgery think seriously about rejection or an agreement from your dealer/Skoda that you can reject it later if you find it rattles like a baby's toy.

My case is probably extreme but does show what can go wrong in such instances.

I think it's a bit early for car rejection and hysteria.

I did not say it should be rejected, I said they should find out what repairs are being carried out and act accordingly. If its not major surgery then everything should be OK.

Personally, after previous experience (the sharing of which this site encourages) I would not accept a new car that has had its insides dismantled and reassembled.

I agree with you. Major jobs are a no no. Leads to further grief as you know. My car had major work from new and I rejected it too. SUK would not play ball but the dealer agreed to take car back and offer a substitute. I declined that offer as they were stock cars and mine had options.
