Choice of wax

Featured Replies

I'm hoping to get a few more replies than I did on the M&K thread :) I've just posted the below on DW and a lot are suggesting Zymol Glasur. Any comments from you guys as you seem to have your heads screwed on ;)

I'm looking at getting a new wax and have around £100 to spend. The wax is to be used on a Race Blue skoda Octavia and a Black Mazda CX-5. Both are used daily although the Skoda covers around 18k miles a year.

I'm looking for something that'll last 2-3 months, I like really tight beading and for it to be easy to use/spread as I'm a relative beginner.

I've been looking at M & K Show Wax, any of the BMD range (don't know much about these) or getting a custom wax made by Obsession Wax. I'm a bit stuck as to what would be best. I don't think I'll be spending this much on a wax in the near future again so want it to feel a bit like luxury if that makes sense?

Cheers

If your spending that amount and it's going to be a one off. I'd look at getting it custom made. Then you can have the smell, finish and consistency that you want.

Jay at Obsession has made some awesome one off blends before. I also think the guys at Dodo Juice do it too

I would be spending my money on Waxaddict Vitreo or Quartz.

There are a lot of waxes around that mark. And I haven't used a lot of them.

Angelwax The Fifth Element is the best that I have used personally for looks etc. Some that I would be interested in are Definitive Wax 0102 which you will have to find on Facebook I believe, and Glasur. I've looked a lot at it, and it is highly rated. Good luck, I hope you get sorted!!

There are plenty of options....  depends what the key criteria are for you.

BMD waxes are all soooo easy to use - highly recommended.

Stevie will do custom colour, scent etc and has the wooden or metal billet pots as added options.

Waxaddict i've just made a start on and both Vitreo and Quartz mentioned above are great.

Definitive Wax are popular now - in fact i have just pre-ordered the new release called Ascari.

The issue here - i think there is perhaps too much choice..... COra is a great starter though.

KKD Seduction is one i would recommend; within budget; nice packaging and great results.

M&K - heard good things; but not used it personally.

Zymol - only had one use of Titanium i think it was.

Gave a great finish but died quickly; poor application i think by the detailer i used.

So i've never gone back to Zymol after that disaster.

For £100 - i would recommend Auto Perfection Evolve (Hybrid winter) and Intensify (Show)

I hope this helps a little - just shout if you need any more info or discount codes etc.

Thanks for the info guys. I've ordered some Mitchell and King Show Wax, to be honest I'm not entirely sure why but it was an itch I had to scratch! Will do a bit of a review when I get chance to use it.

Nice one Andy! They look like cracking waxes, and very well presented! Like you say, sometimes you've just got to scratch that itch. Enjoy!

Nice one - looking forward to it.

Just remember - the wax is the finishing stage to the real hard work.... the preparation.

So don't rush the job and make sure you prepare the paint before hand to allow the wax to do its job

Cheers Ste, the prep is something I've got to work on as I really don't like the polishing stage. Next time we get a dry day I'm going to give it a proper detail to see what I can actually achieve when I put my mind to it :)
