Fabia vRS throttle problem

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Looking for some advice or pointers please.

MY vRS has the dreaded flashing glow plug light, no throttle response (high idle speed) and fault code usually generated by that.

Now this happened about 3 months ago at which time I got a good used spare throttle pedal assembly (no new in the UK) and the problem went away......how ever it has recently returned and I cannot get to the bottom of it. I find it hard to grasp that a second pedal would fail in the same way as they are generally reliable items.

I'm looking for any advice as to a specific other issue which anyone may have encountered which sorted the problem. I have disconnected all the bulkhead plugs (that's fun getting to) and to me they all look good as I have read water ingress there "may" be an issue., but I did not find anything obvious. I have also tried another engine ECU and that shows the same fault, so I would "assume" my ECU is ok.

Both my "original" and replacement pedal show they are working on Vag Com.

What I don't know, is what the voltage should be at the pedal plug as that may indicate a problem in the wiring, but so for I have not found anything.

So if you have any advice, please let me know.

Thanks

Well it has been a while, been busy so did not get around to fixing the car as quick as I would have liked.

Anyway, after a LOOOONG weekend removing the dash so I could get to the wiring looms and then tested the lot between the throttle pedal, bulkhead and engine ECU I found a broken wire somewhere in the loom between the ECU plug and the bulkhead connections. Ran new wire in from ECU plug to bulkhead and VROOOMMM she's back and purring

Just thought I would post the fix as I doubt it will be the only one which has this issue.

Glad to hear your perseverance paid of and its now fixed.

Very strange to find a broken wire though. I can grasp broken wires in places where they flex a lot like the door or boot wiring but from the ECU to the throttle seems strange. I wonder if the wiring was trapped during manufacture somewhere hidden away and the years of vibrations and use caused it to finally give up.

Was it a complete open circuit or high resistance?

Hi,

Complete open circuit, nothing there at all, almost seemed to good to be true but it's def fixed now :D

I would suggest it was "tight" when manufactured, and "broke" because of the harsh environment vehicle wiring is subjected to, I was tempted to "break" the loom down to pin point it exactly, but it would have just made a mess for nothing to be honest.

As soon as I had continuity between all the pedal plug wires and the bulkhead connection, then it had to be under the scuttle panel somewhere where the main loom runs that was faulty.

Also strange that a replacement pedal made any difference.
