Updating Nav/maps = problems

Featured Replies

OK, happy with the new updated maps i was downloading it on my sloooow internetconnection, just to find out it doesn't work!

1.) http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ - enter the VIN, and download the 22GB file via the "Downloader.exe"

2.) ages later when it's completed it asks me to pick where t unpack it - yea, my 64GB SDcard

3.) once more it takes ages to unpack the file

4.) results? - "Unpacking data has invalid size" Update could not be successful.

I have tried to download new *.exe, and downloaded + unpacked the file 4 times now.... what the...!?

Antivirus is disabled during this.. anyone else? Solution?

I know a friend has the same prob for his Octy 3.

Thanks

Have you deleted everything off the SD card first?

What you should have done is backed everything up from the card to the computer, then delete all the files off the card and unpack the new files with the downloader.

Yes the SD is formated before. In Windows 8.1 all i can pick from is exFAT and NTFS, so i took exFAT.

Also formated it with the Downloader.exe

Just tried to update it in the car anyways, but it says it can't find any update files. =/

Ok, gonna try to format it with http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm and see if that works =)

Windows can't handle disks larger than 32gb to be formated in FAT32... other programs needed for that.

I'll let you know if it works :D

SOLVED!

The above solution worked like a charm ;)

My understanding is that it can read NTFS.

Yep..just had a look in the Coumbus manual and the SD card reader supports NTFS

Ahhhh, well there you go. One to remember

I don't have my car yet. My question is can the maps upgrade be done on a Mac?

Yes. I did the last (November) update without problems.

Download the map/update which is a zip file.

Extract the zip on your Mac. Don't use Safari's option to auto-extract as that can cause issues. (Disable it in:- Safari > Preferences > General > Open "safe" files after downloading).

Use one of the many freely available extraction tools (Stuffit Expander, The Unarchiver, etc).

Format an SD Card as exFAT (NTFS is not supported by OSX) then copy the extracted files to the empty SD Card.

Very helpful thanks BillyJim :)

Downloaded the new maps onto a 32GB SD card (formatted first on Mac as exFAT)

Extracted downloaded files with Stuffit Expander and dragged and dropped them onto the formatted SD card, (the ‘date modified’ of the files is July 2015 though??) once I put the SD card in and try to update the maps it says no new maps found (or words to that effect)

Ideas??

The mib2 maps don't appear to be updated from last November's update!!!

Ah that will be why then as my car was built in November

Hi,

Slightly off topic but-- anybody know if its possible to delete destinations in the columbus sat nav ? tried most things with no luck and the handbook does not seem to mention it.

That was a terse answer as I was out and about, so to put a bit of meat on the bone...

The map file that's currently downloadable on the Skoda update portal is ECE 2016, which is the map version released in November 2015.

The May (now June!) update should be ECE 2016/2017. The Portal page (VIN entry) actually states the last update was November 2015 and the next update is due in June - and there's just under two weeks of June remaining.

I'm hoping the delay is for Station Logos to be added to the update as there are a few new DAB stations that appear as black boxes with no logo

I know, not a great issue, but it looks nicer with logos.

Others (search the Octavia III forum) have been downloading the mib2 2016/2017 updated maps from the VW site. I'm holding off in the hope that Skoda will update very soon.

You can add your own logos, check the manual.

Size some jpgs to the correct dimensions and then stick on usb/sd card, then you can assign your own...

Thanks. Missed that bit in the manual. Worked a treat.
