Sports spring

Featured Replies

Bad news, my Skoda has a broken rear spring, even though it's just the very base of the spring, I'm told it's an Mot fail item, so I need to get a pair of new rear springs.

Even worse news, it's got sports suspension, and from posts I have read, these are main dealer items.

Just wondering if that is still the case, are there any other suppliers for these springs? or is there a suitable replacement spring?

I also need to get rear bushes for the front wishbones, are these a standard part for the Octavia whether or not it has sports suspension, and can anyone suggest a good choice for replacing same balancing cost and quality?? Many thanks

I certainly know the front springs on an L&K with sports suspension are VAG only items, presumably the rears are the same.

Re bushes...

I think I read somewhere that it's just about same price buying a whole new wishbone with bushes fitted as a direct replacement rather than faff around fitting bushes only... read THINK!

If you've got the Eibach accessory springs then you may struggle to replace these. As far as I'm aware dealers no longer supply them but perhaps ebay or similar will have some. A guy on here had bought the last of the Eibach stock and was selling them off a while back. I picked up a set as spares and was very glad I did as the vRS failed the last MoT because of a broken front spring.

PM Sent. I have some springs available.

Thanks for replies I am visiting tps tomorrow to price up the springs and get the part numbers. I have no idea who made them for Skoda, I will need to do a bit of digging, perhaps lesjofors?? but they lower by about 10 to 13 mm I think. I dont think they are Eibach, and if I put the sachs springs on I will probably have to change all 4, which I am not sure about, will depend on how much it costs for the two rear springs!!

As for the bushes, there are lots of interesting threads on here that I am learning from. It appears I can get just the insert, which varies between 5 to 10 quid for original or lots more for superflex or pro thingy, or get the housing with the insert which bolts on, 30 quid a side for meyle, or the whole arm, not sure of price yet. As far as I can tell, doing the bush only is cheapest but may involve applying a lot of pressure to an old wishbone. For cheapness, the best option I saw was about ten quid a side for the Audi version of the console insert which is solid and apparently a lot better, thats as far as I have got, there are many different approaches and parts available.

Ideally, you would get a full list of your PR codes as the service book or boot sticker are only a subset. This will tell you exactly what suspension you have and therefore the correct replacement springs.

If I recall, there are 4 different stock spring groups:

- Normal (PR-2UA)

- Rough road (PR-2UB)

- Sports (PR-2UC)

- vRS (both PR-2UC and PR-A8F)

For each of the above variants, there will be different versions depending on the weight of the car. This will be in the form of PR-Lxx where xx is a number. You can also look at your current suspension for the paint code as that should point to a single weighting.

Might be worth adding more details about your car or even better, a picture of the sticker in the service book or boot.

Oh, actually, the rear weights probably start with PR-0xx so it might be worth checking for a paint code as I doubt that'll be listed on the sticker.

Many thanks. It is the 2UC, I was hoping that tps would get the right spring for me when I speak to them, if I had known it then subdived in to weight etc I would have noted the paint code when we had it on the ramp yesterday!!!! no matter live and learn, will see how it goes tomorrow and bear in mind the paint code as well thanks again.

Just about got it sorted hopefully. tps provided the part number, 128 for pair of springs from them. Went on etka, got the equivalent part no for Lesjofors item, on their way from Berlin, 64 for the pair, and they will match the items that the previous owner put on the front a couple of year ago.

Spoke to mechanic, he says just get the insert, so going to get the Lemforder solid items (Audi fitment I think) from ecp at 9 quid each. Get the new wheels and tyres on. Get tracking done. All done. That's the plan anyway!!!!
