Skoda Fabia RNS510 Columbus Install

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I need your help as I am in a little bit of trouble.

Last weekend I tried installing a Columbus unit in my Fabia 2 from 2008. Everything worked fine, the unit started, the music is playing, I have sound, the antenna found satellites, I get voice sound for Navi, the only problem I encounter is that when I start driving the car the arrow on the Navi is not moving and it stays in my last location.

Anyone has any idea of how I can fix this?

My Fabia doesn't have the MaxiDot display and I don't care that I don't get arrow directions on my cluster.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Where have you installed your gps antenna? Is your antenna fixed in a position not moving?

Yes it is set on top of the dashboard , in the right corner.

Go to the NAV screen and touch "Current position", llok for the number of satellites tracked, and report back what you see. It should read something like 8/11 or so.

On the maps screen you should have a compass icon on the top right hand side, and underneath there might be a picture of a car with 4 arrows pointing at it from all sides. Touch this.

If its from 2008 then won't that be a CAN1.6 car rather than 2.0 of the FL model? Doesn't the Colmubus actually use the wheel sensors for movement than the GPS Aerial?

It may need coding with VCDS, mine did when I upgraded the Greenline unit

No, it uses the GPS primarily, and then the wheel speed sensors and steering angle sensor for assistance, like going under bridges etc. where the GPS would be lost.

I have one of each, rns510 and rns310 - I found the rns315 to be a faster unit, and even with no coding whatsoever it works really well - doesn't go off with the ignition and turns off every 30 mins, which is no real hardship unit I change my current vcds cable to a new hex-can
